Profile

A computer scientist and artificial intelligence researcher. Head of the Machine Learning Team at the Institute of Theoretical and Applied Informatics, Polish Academy of Sciences. He specializes in machine learning theory and deep neural networks, as well as their applications in the analysis of signals, images, and time series. He develops methods for improving the interpretability of deep learning models, including techniques for mitigating the phenomenon of “neuron death” and adapting neural network architectures to complex spatio-temporal data. He has led and contributed to numerous research and development projects, including those focused on intelligent monitoring of water distribution networks (leak and failure detection) and other industrial systems, as well as advanced hyperspectral image analysis applied in forensics and cultural heritage protection. He has extensive teaching experience in the field of artificial intelligence systems and machine learning, as well as experience collaborating with industry on the implementation of data-driven analytical solutions.

Research area: practice and theory of machine learning and deep neural networks, interpretability and explainability of AI models, representation learning for time series and images, classification and analysis of hyperspectral data, applications of machine learning in monitoring infrastructure technical systems, use of AI methods in image analysis and medical diagnostics.
