Profile
A graduate of the Faculty of Environmental Protection at the University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn. He holds a PhD in Agricultural Sciences and is a Professor at the Institute of Animal Reproduction and Food Research, Polish Academy of Sciences. He completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the Misaki Marine Biological Station, University of Tokyo, and was a visiting researcher at the Tropical Biosphere Research Center, University of the Ryukyus, Japan.
Research area: His research interests focus on the reproductive biology of aquatic organisms and the application of cryobiology in biodiversity conservation, particularly the use of coral gamete cryopreservation as a tool in assisted evolution strategies aimed at increasing the resilience of coral populations to thermal stress and ocean acidification. He is a co-author of the first publication worldwide (Ohki et al. 2015, Coral Reefs) demonstrating the practical potential of using sperm cryopreservation in coral breeding and conservation programmes.
