Profile
A marine biologist and zoologist specializing in the taxonomy, biogeography, and evolution of tanaidacean crustaceans (order Tanaidacea). She investigates relationships between environmental variability and the evolution and dispersal of organisms with limited mobility. She participated in four reef expeditions to eastern and western Australia as part of the Census of Marine Life: CReefs Ecosystem (2008–2010), combining taxonomic expertise with analyses of the structure and functioning of coral reef ecosystems. She is an active initiator of research on marine crustacean biodiversity and evolution, and the originator and leader of research projects focused on the ecology and integrative taxonomy of Tanaidacea. She is involved in efforts to advance the understanding and conservation of marine fauna and to develop modern research methods supporting the management of ecosystems particularly vulnerable to anthropogenic pressures.
Research area: taxonomy, biogeography, and evolution of marine crustaceans of the order Tanaidacea.
